San Francisco Art Book Fair
Brand Identity

The San Francisco Art Book Fair is an annual three-day festival celebrating artist publications, drawing in over 100 exhibitors and 10,000 visitors. In 2019, the organizers of the fair asked an external designer for the first time to create the event's graphics. I designed the visual identity including the logo, promotional materials, signage, collateral, and marketing elements.

Creative Direction:
Brett MacFadden

The visual identity centers on Solenizant Ultra—a bold, blocky typeface whose weight and structure evoke the stacked presence of books on a shelf. To complement the wordmark, a pattern system was developed that embraces the experimental, DIY spirit characteristic of the SF Art Book Fair

All elements were rendered in black on solid color fields, reflecting the limitations of the production methods often used by artists to create the zines commonly found at art book fairs
